SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – A narration has been reported about the childhood of Imam Hadi (AS) which said: In year 218 AH, 2 years before his martyrdom when Imam Jawaad (AS) was brought to Baghdad from Medina by Motasem, the Abbasid Caliph, Imam Hadi (AS) was 6 years old and remained in Medina with his family. When the Caliph was informed about the 6 year old son of Imam Jawaad (AS), he said: This is dangerous and we must think about this child, so he ordered the child to be brought to Medina and appointed an enemy of the Ahlul Bait (AS) as the teacher for Imam Hadi (AS). Al-Jonaidi who was one the most bitter enemies of the Ahlul Bait (AS) was given the task of educating the son of Imam Jawaad (AS).

After a while one of the officials of the Caliph asked Al-Jonaidi about the child, Al-Jonaidi said: Child? You call this a child? I talk about an ethical subject with him and he opens chapters for me about that subject which I benefit from! Where have they been taught? Sometimes when he wants to enter the chamber, I ask him to recite a Surah from Quran, then enter, intending to tease me, he asks me: Which Surah should I recite? And I replied: A big Surah, like Al-e-Imran, he recited and explained the meanings of the difficult parts for me, they are scholars! They know Quran by heart and they are experts of Quran interpretation and commentaries, he is a child in appearance but he is God’s proof. Al-Jonaidi stayed with Imam Al-Hadi (AS) for a while and became one of the most devoted followers of Ahlul bait (AS).
