According to recent researches, the best way to fix drowsiness and slump is taking a short nap.
Researchers from Harvard Medical School’s sleep medicine department found that usually most people feel euphoria during daytime, but as hours ticked by, they start to feel drowsiness, tiresome and giddiness. This feeling usually start from noon time. The best strategy to fight off this drowsiness and tiresome is taking a short nap.
On the other hand, these researchers offer simple advices to fix this tiring mood.
A Golden Opportunity
Sleeping is a vital need of body, so like other affairs of life, we need to consider an appropriate time to let the body to be refreshed. People should set a golden timing for their short-term naps.
People usually feel drowsiness after having lunch in noon time, hence they should take a nap as soon as they feel slump and drowsiness; it helps them to avoid nocturnal insomnias, which are happened as the result of sleeping in noon.
Since there are lesser sunlight and shorter days in cold seasons of the year, nap time should be set after having lunch and before 3: 00 pm.
According to researchers, if you take a nap longer than half an hour, your brain’s function is declined; because if you take a nap more than half an hour, your sleep will be deepened which is followed by drowsiness after waking up.
Some people say, “Now I sleep and I will get up whenever it happened”, it does not seem a good way. People need to schedule a time for taking a nap and set their circadian rhythm accordingly. Hence a useful nap should last only between 20 and 30 minutes. According to researchers, if you take a nap longer than half an hour, your brain’s function is declined; because if you take a nap more than half an hour, your sleep will be deepened which is followed by drowsiness after waking up.
The Best Place for a Short Nap
If you lie down for sleeping, you sleep will be longer; hence you need to choose a comfortable and convenient place.
A Convenient Space
A room in which you supposed to take a short nap, should be a quiet and dark one as far as possible; however very dark rooms must be avoided because in such places your brain will feel giddiness and it thinks that it’s the time for nocturnal sleeping. A proper room temperature will help you to experience a better nap.
Long Naps are Detrimental
Results of a study done by Cambridge University show that people who take long and repeated naps during the day are threatened by premature death risk. In this study, which lasted for 13 years, researchers demonstrated that people who take nap more than one hour, will experience premature death 32% more than others.
In this study, the medical records of 25000 men and women, 40 to 79, were analyzed. They were grouped based on the period of time they used to take a nap. Finally, it turned out that people who sleep more than one hour during daytime are subject to premature death caused by cardiovascular diseases, cancers and respiratory diseases. To achieve more precise results, more studies are needed in this field.
