Activists gather in front of Bahrain’s London embassy protesting imprisonment of Al Khawaja

SHAFAQNA – A group of activists gathered in front of the Bahraini Embassy in London on Monday to protest the ongoing imprisonment of human rights defender Abdulhadi Al Khawaja.

The protest was organized by Front Line Defenders, whose executive director Andrew Anderson said that Al-Khawaja is “behind bars for demanding freedom and justice”.

Al-Khawaja is serving a life sentence over his role in Bahrain’s pro-democracy protests in 2011.

Recent reports revealed that authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are denying Al-Khawaja access to television, radio and books while restricting him from communicating with his family.
