Affectionate behaviour of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) towards children

SHAFAQNA – At the time when showing affectionate behaviour towards children interpreted as weakness, whenever the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) used to see children, he used to greet them and stroke their head gently and lovingly. The Prophet (PBUH) used to say: After me this behaviour should become a custom in the society [1]. The children who lived near the Prophet (PBUH), whenever they saw him, used to run towards him as they considered him a sincere and loving friend.

One day when the Prophet (PBUH) was leading a congregational prayer session, performed the last part a bit faster than usual. When the prophet (PBUH) finished the Salaat, he was asked if anything happened. The Prophet (PBUH) replied: Did you not hear the groaning of a child? It became clear that near the place of the prayers, a child was crying and no one was there to attend to the child and the Prophet (PBUH) went to calm him down [2].
