Is it alright for school children to draw images of the human beings or animals? The Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered questions about school children to draw images of the human beings or animals.

Question: In schools the pupils are asked to draw the images of the human beings or animals in a way that it is difficult for the pupil to resist, is it allowed for the pupil to draw? And what is the ruling if the pupil is asked to make a statute instead of drawing?

The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: Drawing without projecting/protruding (the body parts) is absolutely allowed. And regarding the image with projection (making statute) for living creatures, the Wajib precaution is to avoid it. And the school homework is not the justification to go against Wajib precaution, unless it is absolutely unavoidable, for example if the request is rejected, the pupil will be expelled from the school, and it creates such a difficulty which cannot be tolerable for the pupil.
