SHAFAQNA – Yahoo-owned research firm Flurry has revealed in its latest statistics that Apple’s popular mobile devices – the iPhone and the iPad – dominated 2014 holiday-season sales for smartphones and tablets.

According to the figures released by Flurry, Apple led all new mobile device activations made across the world during the one-week period from December 19 to December 25.

Apple’s share of device activations worldwide during the mentioned week was 51.3 percent; with Samsung being at a distant second spot with a 17.7 percent share of device activations. To put it differently, Apple activated 2.9 devices for every one device activated by Samsung during the week; with iPhone 6 being the top-ranking device during the Christmas shopping period.

Among the other vendors, Microsoft (Nokia), Sony and LG respectively accounted for 5.8 percent, 1.6 percent and 1.4 percent of device activations in the given week.

In reference to Apple’s dominance of handset and tablet sales during the holiday shopping season this year, Jarah Euston – VP of analytics at Flurry – said: “It was a banner Christmas for the Apple, the company that started the mobile revolution with the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007.”
