Apple reportedly planning to launch 4-inch iPhone 6 variant in 2015

SHAFAQNA – in a recent note to investors, Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri has claimed that tech giant Apple apparently has plans underway to launch a ‘Mini’ version of its latest iPhone 6 model, for its 2015 lineup.

The smaller iPhone 6 variant – which will likely be called iPhone 6S mini – will feature a 4-inch display, which was the standard iPhone screen size prior to the launch of the new-generation, bigger screen iPhone 6 models. While the iPhone 6 features a 4.7-inch display; the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display.

According to Arcuri, the 4-inch iPhone 6S mini is scheduled to join its bigger counterparts next year. The 2015 models of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus will reportedly be called iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

Arcuri has asserted in the note that, going by the details shared by his unidentified sources, the specifications of the iPhone 6S mini will be fairly akin to those of the iPhone 5s. Arcuri said: “We believe specs [for the 6s mini] will be close to iPhone 5s, but with curved screen edges like the iPhone 6 and may include some purpose-built low cost components.”

This disclosure by Arcuri implies that the iPhone 6S mini will be a low-cost handset, which will essentially cater to the consumer category which prefers a 4-inch iPhone rather than the bigger-screen iPhone models.
