Why is it appropriate to avoid flattery of the rulers?

SHAFAQNA – Imam Ali (AS) said: O’ people; I ask you not to flatter me with your beautiful words; in order that I am able to carry out my duties towards Allah (SWT) and you, and pay back the left over dues (to settle all the remaining rights of others), and perform all Wajib duties which I am responsible for and must perform them [1]. Therefore, it is clear that flattery of the rulers is not an appropriate deed, and causes problems for the rulers as well as the society at large.
