Terrorism is a great danger for the society: Ayatollah Rafsanjani’s interview with Shafaqna (Part Two)

SHAFAQNA – In his second part of interview with SHafaqna, Ayatollah Rafsanjani stated that in Islamic societies “if Howza (theological centres) and government do their duties right, they are not separated from each other, they are part of the nation with different missions.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani: We do not have any problem with Sunnis. Shias and Sunnis must not commit acts which make each other angry or create hate because doing so is a great sin. The Leader (the Grand Ayatollah Khamenei) also emphasizes this point. Unfortunately there are those in Islamic countries who commit bad acts but the virus of extremism must be controlled. Presently, terrorism is a great danger for the society and there is the possibility that this terrorism becomes a world war but of the terrorism kind.

I see a big danger in Syria. The Russians saw that gradually they should enter and started to bring their forces, the USA warned the Russians that this is dangerous. The European Union held a meeting to send modern equipment to Syria and discussing if by war the problem can be solved. If this happen, it will be a new catastrophe and terrorism cannot be defeated easily. If terrorism is thrown out of one place it will move to another place.

Regarding the role of religious authorities (maraje) within Shia societies and resolving the crisis, Ayatollah Rafsanjani commented: I think that if Howza (theological centres) and government do their duties right, they are not separated from each other, they are part of the nation with different missions.
