SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatullah Wahid Khorasani has given some advices to the pilgrims of Arbaeen and mourning processions.

According to Shafaqna, this Shiite religious authority at the end of his jurisprudence class at the Great Mosque of Qom referred to verse 2 of the surah al-Anfal which posits that:

«إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّـهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ»

“The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.”

He said: “The significance of Mo’min [or believer] is such that a surah in Qur’an is named after him[/her].” Allah says in verses 10-11 of the surah al-Mo’minoun:

« أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ ﴿١٠﴾ الَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ ﴿١١﴾»

“Those are the inheritors (10) Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally (11)”

He then recited the famous hadith from Imam Hassan al-Askari in which he says: “The signs of a true believer are five: Performing fifty-one rak’as of salat daily; Ziarat of Imam Hussain on the day of Arbaeen; Wearing a ring in the right hand; Placing the forehead on dust [during sajdah]; and saying Bismillah al-rahman al-rahim aloud [while in salat].”

Concluding these two references, Ayatullah Wahid said: “So the pilgrimage of Arba’een is a sign of Iman, and Iman is described [as such] in the Qur’an.”

Emphasizing that the pilgrimage of Arba’een could be carried out both remotely and closely, he said: “After this session, [I recommend] every one of you make wu’du and go upstairs, and [facing Karbala] say three times Salla Allah-o Alayk ya Aba Abdillah (صلی الله علیک یا أبا عبدالله). In so doing, you will become the pilgrim of Arba’een and achieve the signs of Iman.”

Ayatullah Vahid Khorasani said: “People have not known Imam al-Hussein… There’s a stupendous phrase [in ziarat of Imam Hussein prescribed for 1st of Rajab] in which Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq addresses Imam Hussein and says:

«يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ‏، أَشْهَدُ لَقَدِ اقْشَعَرَّتْ لِدِمَائِكُمْ أَظِلَّةُ الْعَرْشِ مَعَ أَظِلَّةِ الْخَلاَئِقِ‏»

“O Aba Abdillah! I bear witness that, verily, the foundation of the Arsh shuddered and jolted when your blood spilled over the sand and every living being shivered and trembled.”

“And there’s this hadith,” the Shiite religious authority added, “in which the ziarat of Imam Hussein has been likened to visiting Allah in his arsh.”

Ayatullah Wahid Khorasani advised all Hussaini processions to go to the streets on the day of Arba’een, and stated that each of these demonstrations will be as a consolation for Imam al-Mahdi (a.s.): “He is the one who is aware of what happened [to Imam Hussein].”

“Arbaeen pilgrims,” he stated at the end of his words, “take this pilgrimage on behalf of the eighth Imam, [Imam al-Ridha], and along the path recite the surah al-Tawhid, day and night.”
