Bahrain calls for freezing of Qatar’s PGCC membership

SHAFAQNA-

Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifah has warned that his country will not attend an upcoming Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) if Qatar doesn’t alter its stance on regional issues.

“If Qatar thinks that its current playing with time and evading will buy it time till the upcoming PGCC summit, then it’s mistaken. If the situation remained as it is, we won’t attend this summit,” said Al Khalifah on his official Twitter account on Sunday, presstv.com reported.

He added that the right step to preserve the council is to halt Qatar’s membership… “Otherwise we are fine with its outing from the council.”

Earlier in the day, Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warned that any military action against his country will plunge the region into chaos.

Military intervention in Qatar will bring chaos: Emir (PRESSTV)

Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani says a Saudi-led blockade on the Persian Gulf nation has targeted its ‘independence.’

Back in June, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the UAE imposed a trade and diplomatic embargo on Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism, an allegation strongly denied by Doha.

The Saudi-led quartet presented Qatar with a list of demands and gave it an ultimatum to comply with them or face consequences. The demands included closing the Al Jazeera broadcaster, removing Turkish troops from Qatar’s soil, scaling back cooperation with Iran, and ending ties with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood movement.

Doha, however, refused to meet the demands and denounced them as unreasonable.
