Beef recalled in Oregon and Washington for possible E. coli

SHAFAQNA – A Washington company is recalling 1,620 pounds of boneless beef trim that was sold in Washington and Oregon, because of a possible E. coli contamination. The recalled product: 60-lb. bulk packs of “TRIM 65/35 (FZN),” with “Est. 235” inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture mark of inspectionIt was processed in a single grinding facility, then shipped for plates in hotels, restaurants and other institutions.

Washington Beef of Toppenish produced the packages on Nov. 28. During an internal records audit by the company, officials discovered that the beef might be tainted with the O157:H7 strain of E. coli, which is especially virulent.

The strain has caused illness recently in several states, and can be deadly — especially to children and people with weakened immune systems. If you consumed the beef and experience easy bruising, pallor, decreased urine output, bloody diarrhea or abdominal cramps in the days afterward, go to the hospital or other emergency medical facility immediately.

No one has become ill from the beef, as far as federal and company officials know.
