Birmingham Quran manuscript, event about its secrets

Found last year hidden inside the pages of another book in the University of Birmingham Library, radiocarbon dating found the Islamic manuscript was at least 1,370 years old.

It was dated to a period between AD 568 and 645 with 95.4 per cent accuracy, suggesting the manuscript was written less than 20 years after the death of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The Holy Prophet received the revelations that form the scripture of Islam between the years AD 610 and 632, the year of his death.

Organized by The Lunar Society, the event will include a talk by Sarah Kilroy, Head of Conservation and Programming from the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Research Library.

It will be followed by a chance to view the manuscript.

The ticket-only event will be held from 5-6.30pm on Thursday, March 24 at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square, Birmingham B3 3DH
