SHAFAQNA -Â A massive car bomb blast has injured six policemen in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.
According to the country’s Interior Ministry, the blast targeted a state security building in Cairo’s Shubra al-Khaima district in the middle of the night.
The ministry’s statement read “A man suddenly stopped his car in front of the state security building, jumped out of it and fled on a motorbike that followed the car,†adding “The car exploded wounding six policemen.â€
Another unidentified source also told AFP that “the explosion partially destroyed the building.â€
No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion, which was reportedly heard all over the city, but the Egyptian government often blames such attacks on Velayat Sinai, an affiliate of the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group, most active in the country’s restive region of North Sinai.
Some media outlets also reported a separate blast in central Giza Province, but authorities have not commented on those reports.
