Bosnian Muslims flock to mosques to celebrate Night of Power

SHAFAQNA - As in the all parts of the world, Muslims living in Bosnia-Herzegovina celebrated Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power) on Monday, marking the anniversary of the night on which the revelation of the holy Quran first began.

People flocked to various mosques across the country to pass the night. On the capital city of Sarajevo, the mosques swarmed with people and Directorate of Religious Affairs held some events special to the Night of Power. People prayed until the morning at the mosques.

Known as Laylat al-Qadr in Arabic, the night of power is traditionally accepted as the night between the 26th and 27th days of Ramadan. It is believed that this night is when the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the Angel Gabriel. It is, therefore, the most sacred night of the entire year.
