boston.com/After 13 Years, Professor Finds Owner of Wedding Photo Found at Ground Zero

SHAFAQNA –  Fred Mahe told USA Today that he last saw the photo when it was in his office on the 77th floor of the second tower, and thought he would never see it again.

The two reportedly plan to meet to exchange the photograph later this year.

Original story: A Lesley University professor is hoping her annual Sept. 11 tradition will have a lucky thirteenth year this week.

Each September, Elizabeth Stringer Keefe tweets a crumpled photo of a joyful wedding scene found near Ground Zero, with hopes she could one day return the memento to its rightful owner.

“It’s a beautiful, joyful moment captured in time and it was such a contrast to what I saw at Ground Zero, which was still burning when I was there,” Keefe told Mashable. “So, if it had a relationship to 9/11, I wanted to keep it safe until I could return it to its owner. There’s so much beauty and happiness in the photo that I just felt committed to the task.”

Keefe told Boston Magazine she received the photo in October 2001, when a friend who originally found the photo decided to move to California and bequeathed the shot to her.

Though Keefe has tweeted the picture for years—and despite the occasional lead—no one has yet come forward as the owner of the photo or one of its subjects.

She may have a shot this year: so far the photo has been retweeted over 50,000 times and received widespread news coverage.
