Can an AIDS sufferer marry a healthy person? The Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered a question about the marriage between an AIDS sufferer and a healthy person.

Question: Can an AIDS sufferer marry a healthy person?

The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: Yes, but cannot deceive the other party; meaning, cannot present himself/herself as healthy at the time of pre-marriage ceremony, despite knowing that he/she is ill. In addition, it is not allowed to have intercourse with the spouse which leads to infection. But with only the possibility of transmission without any certainty being present, it is not Wajib to avoid intercourse; of course after agreement and gaining consent from the other party.
