SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Sistani answered a question about becoming Mohrem (special ceremony for changing into white garments) for Hajj pilgrimage.
Question: For those pilgrims who land in Jeddah airport; can they become Mohrem for Hajj pilgrimage from Jeddah?
The Grand Ayatollah Sistani: The city of Jeddah is not Meeqaat (the place allocated for Ihram), and it is not also one of the adjacent/allocated places (Mohadhy) of one of the Meeqaats; therefore, Ihram from there for Hajj or Omrah is not correct. But if the Hajji knows that between the city of Jeddah and Haram (Mecca), there is a place which is the adjacent/allocated place for one of the Meeqaats, it is not improbable that Ihram from there be correct; as it is probable that the Hajji passes the places allocated/adjacent in Johfah which is one of the Meeqaats; as well as Hajji can become Mohrem by making a vow (Nazr) from Jeddah.
