SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- A Canadian citizen has been attacked in a shopping mall in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, police say.
Authorities said that the man was in “stable” condition on Saturday at a hospital. However, they did not give a possible motive for the attack, which has been described as stabbing.
According to police in Eastern Province, the Canadian was assaulted with “a sharp object” while he was shopping at a mall in the community of Dhahran. An individual has been arrested in connection with the incident.
“The authorities immediately rushed to the scene and arrested the perpetrator, a Saudi national,” the official Saudi Press Agency quoted police as saying.
An investigation has been launched to find the possible reasons behind the attack.
“We’re still trying to figure out what the motive is,” a source familiar with the situation said.
The assault came after a Danish citizen was shot in the shoulder “from an unknown source” as he drove away from his workplace in the capital, Riyadh, on November 22.
The attacks were carried out just one month after a Saudi-American shot dead his former American colleague and injured another at a gas station in the Saudi capital.
The US Embassy in Riyadh issued a notice to American citizens saying that a Danish citizen was shot near a retail store of IKEA, a Swedish furniture company, and that American Embassy personnel had been instructed to steer clear of the area until further notification.
