SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) Key al Qaeda figure Umar Farooq was killed in a suspected U.S. drone strike in North Waziristan on Sunday, Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN. But the Pakistani military denied those reports.

“There was no drone strike inside Pakistan territory today,” the military said in a statement.

Farooq, who also went by the alias Ustad Farooq, was believed to be in charge of al Qaeda’s operations in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also served as a spokesman for al Qaeda.

The purported drone strike Sunday took place when two missiles struck a compound in Datta Khel, killing Farooq and four suspected militants, intelligence officials said.
