Coalition forces hit the seaport of Aden

SHAFAQNA – The Saudi-led coalition conducting airstrikes against Houthis in Yemen have launched aerial and naval attacks on the rebels’ positions in the southern port city of Aden, a security source told Shafaqna.

Several government buildings controlled by Houthis became the targets of the strikes, as well as the port structures and grain storage sites, according to the source.

Tensions have been on the rise in Yemen over the past weeks, with Shiite Houthi rebels battling troops loyal to Yemeni President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Houthis have taken control of the capital Sana’a and other cities in Yemen, forcing the Yemeni government to resign in January. Hadi escaped house arrest in February, fled to Aden and recalled his resignation. In late March, Hadi left Yemen for Saudi Arabia.

An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis since March 26, following Hadi’s request for military aid.
