CTVnews: Pope celebrates canonization of Quebec saints at Rome’s Thanksgiving Mass

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) Pope Francis celebrated the canonization of François de Laval and Marie de l’ Incarnation Sunday, as part of Thanksgiving mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

The ceremony was attended by a large delegation from Quebec that included Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec.

During the liturgy, Lacroix spoke directly to the Holy Father, thanking him on behalf of all his fellow Quebecers for the ‘great gift’ of appointing two new saints from Quebec.

St. François de Laval (1623 – 1708), was the first bishop of Quebec.

St. Marie de l’Incarnation (1599 – 1672), founded of the Ursulines of Quebec, the oldest educational institution for females in North America.

Both were elevated to saints on April 3.
