Debate: Afghanistan under new leadership

Earlier this month, Ghani was named president-elect after he reached a power-sharing deal with his rival Abdullah Abdullah in the June run-off vote following months of political wrangling.

SHAFAQNA- Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has been sworn in as Afghanistan’s new president following a long dispute over the final results of the country’s presidential election.

Under the deal, Abdullah will take up the new post of “chief executive officer” (CEO), which will be similar to the role of prime minister.

In this edition of The Debate, Press TV has conducted an interview with Wayne Madsen, investigative journalist from Tehran, and Michael Lane, the founder of American Institute for Foreign Policy from Washington, in a bid to discuss about Afghanistan under the new leadership, and to see whether or not outside powers like the US will continue their influence in the country.
