Differences between moral and materialistic enjoyments

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – The human being has 2 types of enjoyments, first type are those related to one of the senses which exist in a person and occurs by establishing a connection between one part of the body with an external element, like enjoyment of eyes by looking, ears by listening and mouth by tasting. Another type relates to the spirituality and human conscious and has nothing to do with any other body part or is not dependent on an external element, like the enjoyment of serving others or popularity and respect gained in serving the community.

Moral enjoyments are stronger and more enduring than material ones. The enjoyment gained through worship of God by believers is an example of these types of enjoyments. In religious terms they are defined as the “taste of belief” and “sweetness of belief”. The belief has a sweet taste which is superior to any other moral enjoyments and increases with other efforts carried out for the sake of God such as attaining knowledge, beneficence and public service [1].
