Egypt Voices Concern Over Racism Against Muslims, Migrants in Austria

SHAFAQNA – Egypt voiced on Wednesday 11/11/2015 serious concerns over racism and hatred against foreigners in Austria, especially the migrants, Africans and Muslims.

This came in the statement the Egyptian delegation under Egypt’s delegate to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Amr Ramadan released during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Austria’s record on human rights.

The statement highlighted an escalation of hatred discourse, and racism in the electoral campaigns of the right-wing parties and politicians, along with racial discrimination and violence committed by police without being held accountable.

Amr also voiced concern over the new Islam legislation, restricting the building of mosques. The Egyptian delegation introduced five anti-racism recommendations.
