EXCLUSIVE – Former British deputy prime minister, “We were wrong to invade Iraq”

SHAFAQNA – In exclusive comments to Shafaqna, Lord John Prescott, Britain’s former deputy prime minister under Tony Blair confirmed that it was Blair’s crusades in the Middle East  – Iraq – which trigered radicalism and led to the ostracization of Muslim communities in the UK and Europe.
“We were wrong when it came to Iraq. We were dragged into an armed conflict under false pretenses. We were told by Washington that our intervention in Iraq had to do with national security and not regime change. We were dupped.”
Lord Prescott, who back in 2002 was a strong advocate for war in the Middle East has now come out to label former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s actions – “bloody crusades.”
Asked if oil and the petrodollars stood at the core of Washington’s eternal war in the Middle East, Prescott noted that since national security was not what had motivated both the British and American authorities then “all assumptions remain open. “
Lord Prescott added, “When I hear people talking about how people are radicalized, young Muslims. I’ll tell you how they are radicalized. Every time they watch the television where their families are worried, their kids are being killed and murdered and rockets firing on all these people, that’s what radicalizes them.”

Such comments came as Tony Blair faces allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Campaign groups like “Arrest Blair” have long called for the former prime minister to be tried by the International Criminal Court, and have offered financial rewards to anyone who attempts a citizen’s arrest on him.
