First European Games – Azerbaijan ’s serious success

SHAFAQNA - The First European Games in Baku is the serious success of Azerbaijan, Fuad Muradov, Azerbaijani MP told Trend June 29.

The MP said that the First European Games that lasted 17 days, wrapped up successfully thanks to the high level of professionalism shown by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady, Chairperson of Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as the Baku 2015 European Games Operation Committee.

The First European Games should be considered as the serious success of Azerbaijan, according to Muradov.

“The First European games play a very important role in making Azerbaijan more popular, demonstrating its culture, history, as well as in terms of achievements in the sphere of sports,” he said.

On the one hand, it was a sport competition and on the other hand, it was an event of socio-political and international importance, according to the MP. He added that the visit of the heads of states, officials and many tourists from Europe and from all around the world to Azerbaijan proved the trust to the country.

“The Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Azerbaijan in 2017 will show that as a Muslim country, Azerbaijan is a tolerant and secure state,” he said. “I believe that holding the Olympic Games in Baku will be the next goal.”

The European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and wrapped up on June 28. Baku 2015 First European Games hosted 20 sports – 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
