Frenchwoman is kidnapped in Yemen

SHAFAQNA – Officials in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a confirmed on Wednesday that gunmen kidnapped a Frenchwoman and her local driver on Tuesday morning as she was on her way to work.

The unidentified gunmen intercepted the vehicle on 45th Street in central Sana’a and took the two people to an unknown location, sources have said.

“She was kidnapped in front of a ministry in Yemen,” French President Francois Hollande lamented at a news conference.

“We ask for her to be released as soon as possible, we are trying to locate her and will do all we can for her to be freed.”

Government officials in Yemen have already confirmed that they will do everything they can to secure the safe return of the French national.

It is pertinent to note that the woman in question refused to heed calls from her embassy to evacuate Yemen in view of the worsening security situation.
