Fresh clashes in Yemen’s capital leave 2 dead

Clashes broke out near the house of Ali al-Ahmadi, the head of the National Security Agency, in southern Sana’a on Saturday.

SHAFAQNA– At least two people have been killed in renewed fighting between Yemen’s army forces and Ansarullah activists in the capital city of Sana’a.

Yemeni officials said revolutionaries were trying to storm Ahmadi’s house.

However, a spokesman for Ansarullah activists, also known as Houthis, denied the claim, saying, “An exchange of fire occurred after bodyguards of Ahmadi barred one of our patrols from using a road near his house.”

On September 21, representatives of the Ansarullah movement and the government signed a deal to establish a government of technocrats within a month.

The Yemeni protesters have hailed the agreement as a great achievement. They say the deal would hopefully, in the long run, put an end to their grievances.

Ansarullah activists have been staging demonstrations in the capital for more than a month, demanding the government’s ouster over corruption.

The Ansarullah movement played a key role in the popular uprising that forced the former dictator, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to step down after more than 33 years in power.
