German official denounces ethnic profiling and religious prejudices

SHAFAQNA – Aydan Özoguz, Germany’s federal commissioner for migration and refugees, is the highest-ranking Muslim in the German government and she intends to call German state leaders on their prejudices. In comments to Shafaqna she explained she feels frustrated by the way terrorist incidents drive wedges between different groups in Germany.”With four million Muslims living in Germany, too many few have managed to climb the echelons of politics, thus allowing many prejudices to remain rampant, she told Shafaqna. She added, “We need to change the way we frame terror attacks. The narrative we’re using is actually fuelling hatred against minorities. Terror is divorced from Islam and therefore we should end the analogy. The ideology of terror is no more Islamic than the Ku Klux Klan was Christian.”
