What happens if a person suffers from an incurable illness and does not wish to continue with taking medicines? The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Zanjani answered a question about a person who is suffering from incurable illness and does not wish to continue with treatments.

Question: I am suffering from an incurable illness/disease but I am not willing to continue with treatment to live longer; is this considered to be a sin?

The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi: If the life of an ill person depends on treatment, it is Wajib for that person to treat himself/herself unless the pain and suffering or difficulties after the treatment the ill person is reduced to extremity and helplessness.
