SHAFAQNA – The rights group says Satellite images, as well as a systematic pattern of destruction, indicate that the arson attacks were carried out by government forces, NOT by random arson attacks. It added that thousands of Muslims had to flee their homes as a result of the attacks. Myanmar’s government had previously denied reports that the military was responsible for burning villages. The rights group further called on the government to allow humanitarian access to all parts of northern Rakhine. The Rohingya are subjected to extensive discrimination despite living in Myanmar for centuries. Thousands of them have been killed and tens of thousands more displaced at the hands of Myanmar’s military and Buddhist extremists since 20-12.
