As Israeli attacks on peaceful Palestinian demonstrators outraged the world yet again ; in London the British based Human Rights Group – Inminds this weekend protested outside Adidas’s flagship store on Oxford Street to demand Adidas stop its sponsorship of apartheid Israel Football Association (IFA) which includes football clubs based in illegal settlements built on stolen Palestinian land. The protest is in solidarity with over 130 Palestinian football clubs and sports associations which last week called on the world’s second largest sportswear manufacturer Adidas to respect human rights and cut ties with IFA.
Inminds chair Abbas Ali said “March 30th is Land Day, a commemoration of the ongoing theft of Palestinian land by zionist colonialists. That theft is made possible by companies like Adidas which lend their brand to cover up and whitewash Israel’s war crimes, which the illegal settlements constitute under international law. Illegal settlements built on stolen Palestinian land are normalised and legitimised by Adidas through its sponsorship. We are here to tell Adidas that their complicity in Israeli war crimes will cost their brand dearly. And we are here to ask Londoners to help Adidas make the right decision by boycotting their products until they respect Palestinian human rights.”
The protest group recently also protested outside the French Consulate in London to demand France stop its shameful McCarthyite persecution of activists who support a boycott of apartheid Israel.
On Monday 19th March the trial of human rights activist Olivia Zémor, the president of CAPJPO-EuroPalestine, began at the Court of Versailles, in Paris. She is accused of asking the French singer Vanessa Paradis, seven years ago at a creative vigil outside her concert, not to perform in Tel Aviv and not to meet the then president of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres. The day after the vigil Vanessa Paradis announced cancellation of her performance in apartheid Israel. This apparently is classified as a hate crime, inciting hatred or violence against an ethnic, national, racial or religious group. The French state is prosecuting Olivia Zémor at the behest of the Israel lobby, the ultra-right wing Union of Jewish Communities of France, headed by infamous Franco-Israeli settler Sammy Ghozlan.
Inminds chair Abbas Ali said “It is shocking that in the 21st century France is carrying out witch hunts against activists who champion human rights in Palestine. Freedom of speech, freedom to boycott racism, freedom to stand with the oppressed is on trial in Paris on Monday. It is imperative that freedom wins.”
Iran is the only consistent and practical supporter of the Palestinian Resistance and Foreign Minister Jawad Zareef reiterated that “the Islamic Republic of Iran sees the problems of Palestine as its own, like all other friends and neighboring Muslims, and their security and freedom as its own security and freedom,”
At least 17 Palestinians lost their lives and more than 1,400 others sustained injuries on Friday when Israeli military forces opened fire on thousands of protesters who had flocked to a sit-in near the Gaza border. It seems the Israeli occupation forces are taking advantage of the instability in the neighbouring Arab warzones with their violent overreactions against peaceful Palestinian protestors and Former Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal, said on Sunday that “the Palestinians will not give up the ‘right of return.” Protestors in Palestine plan to breach the Zionist’s wall in their next march and in Britain the BDS movement will continue its pressure alongside other pro Palestinian groups who are doubling up their efforts in the face of increased British Zionist effirts to conflate Zionism with anti-Semitism. The media led attacks on Jeremy Corbyn and his Labour Party this week are an indication of how strong the Zionist lobby in the West is. The British Board of Jewish Deputies and the Israel Lobby are just some of the powerful advocates for Israel’s oppressive policies and also catalyse the campaigns against peaceful anti-Israeli events like the annual Al Quds march which takes place in June this year. Inminds and IHRC have pledged to continue their fight for the rights of Palestinians with more protests, inspite of the intimidation by Zionist lobbies in Britain.
