Hundreds of Kazakh Nationals Fighting for Int’l Terrorist Organizations

SHAFAQNA – Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General Nurdaulet Suindikov announced that a large number of Kazakh citizens are now members of international terrorist organizations. 

“About 300 Kazakh nationals are members of international terrorist organization,” Suindikov told reporters in Astana on Wednesday. 

He noted that Kazakhstan is closely monitoring those citizens who are apt to join the international terrorist organizations. 

In October 2013, Deputy Chairman of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee Nurgali Bilisbekov announced that a large number of Kazakh citizens are fighting in Syria and special investigations are underway to identify them. 

In a related development, Kyrgyzstan’s intelligence agency announced in September 2013 that a number of Kyrgyz citizens are also taking part in the Syrian war against President Bashar Al-Assad’s government. 

On Tuesday, a security official announced that Kyrgyzstan has apprehended 33 Kyrgyz nationals upon their return from the war in Syria where they had joined the terrorist groups. 

“The Kyrgyz nationals intended to conduct terrorist operations in Kyrgyzstan after returning from Syria,” Head of Kyrgyzstan’s National Security Committee Busurmankul Tabaldiev said, addressing Kyrgyzstan’s Security Council meeting Bishkek. 

He noted that the apprehended Kyrgyz citizens had undergone military training in Syria and fought along the Takfiri terrorists against the Damascus government. 

“Despite the efforts of relevant authorities, international terrorist organizations continue to recruit and send recruits to the Middle Eastern conflict zone,” Tabaldiev added. 

At least 350 Kyrgyz citizens have fought alongside the terrorist groups in the war in Syria. 

In December, Spokesman of Kyrgyzstan’s National Security Committee announced that a large number of Kyrgyz citizens were fighting for the ISIL terrorist group against the Damascus government in Syria. 

“A sum of 175 Kyrgyz nationals, who have been attracted to ISIL through the group’s Internet advertisements, are now fighting alongside the terrorists group in Syria,” Suleymanov said. 

He underlined that ISIL is a serious threat to Kyrgyzstan, and said, “We have arrested 36 terrorists over the past two years and tried them on charges of radicalism.” 

A recent UN report revealed that terrorists from 29 countries have infiltrated into Syria to fight against the Damascus government, most of whom are extremist Salafists. 

In July, sources disclosed that Turkish Air has been transporting large groups of Takfiri terrorists from different countries to Syria and Iraq.

“The airliner transported 91 Takfiri Tajiks from Dushanbe to Istanbul at 21:10 on July 2 onboard flight 254,” a source, who asked to remain unnamed for fear of his life, told FNA, and added, “The militants were later transferred to Iraq to join their ISIL co-fighters.”
