Is it important to respect good traditions of other nations?

SHAFAQNA – In his letter to Malik Ashtar (RA), Imam Ali (AS) wrote: Do not interfere with the normal arrangement of the appropriate traditions of the elders of this Ummah. Because due to them (the appropriate traditions) people have joined together and they have restored friendly relations with each other. Do not bring about a rule/tradition which harms the past good traditions. Because then you will be blamed for breaking that (good) tradition [1]. It is narrated that one day a present was brought for Imam Ali (AS), and he asked: What is this? They replied: Today is Norooz (new year). Imam Ali (AS) said: If you can make every day Norooz (meaning; for the sake of God give presents to each other and go and visit each other) [2]
