Interfaith solidarity – Muslims unite en masse to protect Oslo Jewish community

ring of peace in Oslo - NorwaySHAFAQNA  – Over 1,000 Muslims responded to Hajrah Arshad‘s call for mobilization in protection of Oslo Jewish community this Saturday.

Determined to put their faith in action and offer the world a real taste of Islam, a ring of peace was formed around Oslo synagogue to protect Jewish worshippers as they attended Saturday service.

Hajrah Arshad told reporters that the gathering shows “that Islam is about love and unity.”

“We want to demonstrate that Jews and Muslims do not hate each other,” co-organizer Zeeshan Abdullah told the crowd, standing in a half-circle before the white synagogue. “We do not want individuals to define what Islam is for the rest of us.”

“There are many more peace-mongers than warmongers,” he added.

Ervin Kohn, head of Oslo’s Jewish community, called the gathering in sub-zero temperatures “unique.”
