Int’l conference to investigate Quran translations in 8 languages

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Different aspects of translation of the Quran in the world will be discussed at the first International Conference on Quran Translation.

The international scholarly event is slated to be held on December 23-25 at Allameh Tabatabaei University in Tehran.

It is jointly organized by the university and Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).

The Tarjoman-e Vahy (translation of Revelation), Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) University and the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought have also cooperated in holding the event.

Hossein Mollanazar, secretary of the conference, referred to the history of Quran translation and the current renderings of the Quran in various languages as some of the themes of the conference.

He said that during the three-day event, expert panels will investigate renderings of the Quran in 8 languages.

Mollanazar added that Quran translators from 10 countries, including Russia, France, Pakistan, Spain, China, and the Republic of Azerbaijan will be present at the international conference.

On the sidelines of the conference, he noted, an exhibition will be mounted featuring 150 Quran translations and 140 Quranic artworks.

7 prominent translators as well as Gholamali Haddad Adel and chancellor of Allameh Tabatabaei University will be the keynote speakers of the conference, he went on to say.
