Iran, Afghanistan stress boosting security issues in the region

SHAFAQNA – Iran and Afghanistan stressed the further expansion of bilateral relations for the establishment of lasting stability and security in the region.

Secretary of Iranian Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani in a meeting with Afghan National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar here in Tehran stressed expansive and strategic cooperation between the two countries as well as holding bilateral security talks to reach sustainable solutions for the establishment of security in shared borders of the two countries.

He also said pullout of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces from Afghanistan is a good chance to prove capabilities of Afghan Army and security forces in defending national interests and citizens and fighting terrorism.

He also said spread of ‘unrest and terror’ is an old policy sought by certain states to destroy national capabilities and status of certain Islamic in the region. “They have always used the tool to justify their military, economic and military interference in other countries.”

Iranian officials have repeatedly called for a regional solution to the existing problems in Afghanistan and underlined the necessity for an end to the presence of foreign forces in the war-torn country.

Also, Iran has for decades hosted millions of refugees from Afghanistan, though it has received little international support.
