Iran enter 2nd stage large-scale drill

SHAFAQNA – The Iranian Army on Friday concluded the second phase of its six-day major military exercises codenamed Mohammad Rasoulallah (Mohammad, the Messenger of God) in the country’s south.

It is considered the largest-ever drill in terms of the number of forces after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Commander of the Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan told reporters on Friday.

During the second stage of the maneuvers, the Iranian Army’s ground forces practiced striking mock enemy targets using tank fire supported by air force helicopters as well as missiles and artillery units.

Naval forces also engaged mock enemy units. Backed by its F-4 fighter jets, the army units also disrupted the hypothetical enemy’s communications lines.

Also on Friday, Iran test-fired domestically-manufactured anti-tank missile systems, namely Dehlaviyeh and Toofan.

During the first stage of the military drill on Thursday different ground units, fighter jets, and air defense systems were stationed in the southeastern part of the country. Various surface and undersurface vessels were also deployed in the Sea of Oman.

Different types of military hardware and weapons are deployed both in the water and on the ground during the drill, which is the largest of its kind in the region, covering an area of 2.2 million square kilometers.

“The ongoing military drills have a message for our enemies; we are ready as we had announced. For our friends, the message [of the drills] was peace, friendship, and security,” General Pourdastan stated.
