Iran FM : “Stop support the ISIL”

SHAFAQNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for bringing an end to support for the terrorist group of the ISIL.

“Certain steps have to be taken in this regard, the most important of which is stopping support for the ISIL. Unfortunately, the group is supported… It uses the support in geostrategic games with the aim of dominance on the region and this process needs to be stopped,” he said in a meeting in World Economic Forum in Switzerland, as referring to confronting the terrorist group.

He also said that Shiite and Sunni is not the problem of the Middle East, but the problem is between extremism and ‘more rational and moderate’ forces in the region.

Zarif added, “Unfortunately groups such as ISIL, al-Nusra Front and other extremist groups in Iraq and Syria who only claim they are defending Sunnis have killed many Sunni people so far.

Short-term tactical moves or use of the ISIL as pressure lever against other countries or air strikes against positions of the terrorist group would fail to do well, he said, adding that an intertwined multi-dimensional strategy is needed instead.

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the meeting.
