Iran media welcome Ayatollah Khamenei’s letter to US President Obama with caution but hail efforts

Shafaqna – After the Wall Street Journal confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded to US President Barack Obama’s overtures by addressing him a personal letter, Iran media welcomed the move with positive caution.

A news report from WSJ read, “Iran’s paramount political figure, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has responded to overtures from President Barack Obama seeking better relations by sending secret communications of his own to the White House.”

Iranian media like semi official Mher News Agency (A conservative news agency), Tabnak (a conservative website close to the former military head Mohsen Rezaei), Alef (a moderate conservative website close to a prominent parliament member Ahmad Tavakoli), Asre Iran (a moderate conservative website) and Shafaqna (A Multi lingual website reflecting Shia Islam) covered the WSJ news with some degree of optimism, yet a degree of reserve due to Washington’s recent ire towards Iran.

Since no official report was expressly published by the Supreme Leader’s press office, Iran media have been keen to tread carefully, awaiting more solid confirmation and details from Ayatollah Khamenei office.

So far, coverage of such a crucial development in between Iran and the United States and the speed to which the news was transmitted across local media and the tone and the theme employed to report the news are a clear indication of the positive reaction among Iranian media.
