SHAFAQNA – Iranian newly-appointed ambassador to the UN Gholam-Ali Khoshroo called for fighting Iranophobia, Islamophobia and lifting sanctions on Iran.
“All potentials, specially the UN potentials need to be used to boost peace and security in the region and the world and lift unfair sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said upon his arrival in New York.
He also called for fighting extremism, violence and Islamophobia.
The United Nations said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will receive Khoshroo’s credentials on Tuesday afternoon.
The US President Barack Obama signed legislation last April to block Iran’s earlier pick, Hamid Aboutalebi, from entering the United States to become Iran’s U.N. ambassador.
Iran at the time refused to name a new envoy but finally announced Khoshroo last month. He previously served as deputy foreign minister and ambassador to the United Nations.
