Iran oil minister: Iran possessing world’s largest gas distribution network

SHAFAQNA – Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Iran possesses the largest and most expanded gas distribution network in the world and about 87% of the people of Iran are using this energy.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the foundation of petrochemical industry, Zanganeh said development of petrochemical industry in Iran started in the aftermath of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and reached its peak when the reformists were in power.

He further remarked that in 1376 (1997-1998) the value of petrochemical products amounted to about $1 billon which has increased to about $20 billion with the implementation of different projects.

Referring to the interruption caused in the development of petrochemical industry in recent years, the minister did not agree that the sanctions have hindered development of petrochemical industry. He said imprudence was the result of non-development of the industry.

He noted that the sanctions started in 1391 (2012-2013) but billions of dollars of oil revenues had been obtained by the country before that year which were not spent on the development of petrochemical industry.
