Iranian DM urged necessity of anti-terrorism cooperation in region

SHAFAQNA – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan reiterated the necessity for the regional states to join hands to launch collective war on terrorism and extremism.

“No doubt, we should uproot terrorism, violence and extremism with global determination to reach sustainable security and tranquility in the region and the world, and unity among the regional states to fight terrorism, violence and extremism and conclusion of regional treaties to manage and control the crises that result from them is necessary,” Dehqan said in a meeting with his Russian Counterpart Sergey Shoigu in Tehran on Tuesday morning.

“Strengthening the political, security, economic and regional structures like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and creation of new structures in the region can provide the ground for overcoming terrorism and extremism,” he added.

Warning that the West, specially the US, is pursuing the policy of exhausting and destroying the strategic infrastructures and capacities of independent states, Dehqan said Iran and Russia can confront the US expansionist meddlings through cooperation, synergy and activation of their strategic potentials.

He underlined Iran and Russia’s common views on political, regional and international issues, and said, “The two countries can use their capacities to display a role model of complementary cooperation between two countries.”

In relevant remarks in October, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined the need for unity of all the regional countries against the Takfiri terrorist groups in a bid to defeat and drive them out of the region.

“Iran supports all the regional nations, including Syria, Lebanon and Iraq as well as the other nations, that are fighting against terrorism and it will continue to do so,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with visiting Lebanese Defense Minister Samir Moqbel in Tehran.

“Supporting terrorist groups has been a grave mistake by some regional and western states that still continue doing so, they should know that a terrorist and man-killer group cannot be a means of influence in the region,” the Iranian president said.
