SHAFAQNA – Deputy Foreign Ministry for Afro-Arab Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian urged Bahrain to speedily free Sheikh Ali Salman , the Secretary General of Bahrain’s Al-Wefaq Society.
Talking to IRNA, he reacted to the arrest of the cleric and said the Bahraini government has to understand the sensitive and complicated situation in the region.
He urged the Bahraini government to seriously take into consideration the warnings of political figures, religious scholars and other personalities of the region who are intervening with goodwill about the release of Sheikh Salman.
He said the Bahraini government is undoubtedly endangering security of both Bahrain and other regional countries by systematic violation of human rights thus implicitly encouraging extremists.
The Iranian foreign ministry official further expressed concern over the wave of suppression and violence in Bahrain and said such actions would disappoint advocates of democratic means and national dialogue.
He believed such behavior will push Bahrain deeper into the crisis which is no good for any of the parties involved.
Abdollahian said arrest of Sheikh Salman tells of a serious crisis in Bahrain.
The deouty foreign minister said Tehran favors political solutions and true national dialogue out of the present crisis in Bahrain.
