SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association)-The Secretary General of Bahrain’s largest opposition political party, Al-Wefaq, has emphasized that elections are meaningless in Bahrain when so many people (opposed to the Al-e-Khalife regime) are locked up in Bahraini prisons.
According to the Al-Aalam television channel, Sheikh Ali Salman, the Secretary General of Bahrain’s Al-Wefaq movement, strongly condemned the torture of protesters in Bahrain, and the unjust trials to which they are subjected.
Sheikh Ali Salman emphasized that elections in Bahrain are worthless, if large numbers of opposition figures and protesters are locked up in prison.
In further remarks, Sheikh Salman urged all friends of Bahrain to do everything they can to bring about the release of all political prisoners in Bahrain.
He said the Bahraini people have not forgotten the protesters and political opposition figures, who are locked up and tortured in Bahraini prisons, and will do everything they can to highlight their plight, and bring about their release.
Parliamentary elections in Bahrain are due to be held on 22 November 2014 , but the turnout is expected to be low, since virtually all of Bahrain’s opposition political parties, and much of the population, have already declared their intention to boycott these elections.
