ISIL militants, Kurds continue fighting near Kobani

The new clashes come after ISIL militants did not manage to take Kobani on Monday as they were inching toward the town, also known as Ain al-Arab.

SHAFAQNA – Kurdish fighters battle the ISIL Takfiri militants near the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani along the border with Turkey as terrorists are still unable to capture the town.

A black flag belonging to the ISIL terrorist group was visible atop of a four-storey building on the eastern side of Kobani, close to the scene of some of the most intense clashes in recent days. Another larger ISIL flag was planted on a hill in the eastern part of the town.

Reports say at least 20 ISIL militants have been killed overnight in a failed attempt to enter Kobani.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Takfiris came under attack by Kurdish fighters after they entered an eastern neighborhood of the town.

Kurdish fighters have vowed to defend the Syrian Kurdish border town of Kobani.

“Fighting continues. They (ISIL militants) are also firing mortars at the heart of the town. We have light weapons only,” said Esmat al-Sheikh, head of the Kobani Defense Authority, adding, “If they enter Kobani, it will be a graveyard for them. We will not let them enter Kobani as long as we live. We either win or die. We will resist to the end.”

Kobani and its surroundings have been under attack since mid-September, with ISIL militants capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages.

The weeks-long intense battle for the strategic town has forced nearly 200,000 people to take refuge in Turkey.

Syrian Kurdish fighters have called on all Kurds across the region to take up arms against the ISIL militants.

This is while the Turkish government does not allow Kurdish fighters to cross the border into Syria and join the fight against the ISIL militants. Turkey is said to be among the regional countries supporting ISIL.
