SHAFAQNA- On Tuesday night, vandals made a deliberate statement in defacing the Islamic Center of Omaha, wrapping bacon around a door handle and damaging the door’s glass.
Omaha police have some leads after obtaining surveillance footage of the incident.
“(It) showed two white males with their faces covered arrive,” Omaha police Officer Michael Pecha said. “And in the video, you see them throw rocks and concrete at the door of the center.”
The footage also gave police a look at the men’s vehicle.
“After that, the two suspects are seen leaving in a dark-colored sedan,” Pecha said.
Tuesday’s vandalism marks the fourth time the center at 73rd and Pratt has been targeted in less than five months.
In late August, a man hurled a boulder through a window at the center; in November, a vandal tagged Eiffel Tower graffiti on the side of the building after the ISIS attack in Paris.
Omaha police said they are in contact with federal authorities should the vandalism be considered a hate crime.
The investigation is ongoing.
