ISNA/ Iran names December 18 as Day against Violence, Extremism

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- Iran named December 18 as ‘Day Against Violence and Extremism’, based on a plan already proposed by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the UN General Assembly on world without violence.

Iran’s Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution passed a plan unanimously to name December 18 as ‘Day Against Violence and Extremism’.

“No one doubts and can reject the idea that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a forerunner in fighting terrorists in the region and is fighting violence, extremism and terror everywhere,” Rouhani said in a Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution meeting.

The first international World Against Extremism and Violence (WAVE) conference kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday.

Rouhani, Former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, Afghan Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Mohaghegh and Iranian President Chief of Staff Mohammad Nahavandian took part in the event.

The two-day conference has hosted foreign ministers of Iraq and Syria as well as former Lebanese foreign minister, Omani deputy foreign minister Habib Bin Mohammed Bin al-Sheikh Said al-Riyami and a number of officials of other countries.

Iranian President also proposed a ten-article plan for quick fight against terrorism and extremism in the region and the world during his speech in the conference.
