Japan national volleyball team member arrested for theft

SHAFAQNA- A member of the Japanese national men’s volleyball team has been arrested for theft.

According to police, Wang Jingang, 30, who plays for Toray Arrows in the V.Premier League and who is based in Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture, allegedly stole 140,000 yen in cash from a wallet after a customer left it behind at a pachinko parlor in Tokyo’s Shinagawa Ward at around 8:30 p.m. on Dec 10.

Security camera footage showed Wang removing the money from the wallet, police said.

Sports Nippon reported that, following news of Wang’s arrest, Toray turned down an invitation to compete in the All-Japan Volleyball Championships finals in Tokyo later this month.

Wang, who was born in Liaoning province in China, moved to Japan where he played volleyball at a high school and at Tokai University. In 2008, he was admitted to the Toray Men’s Premier League, and in 2011, became a naturalized citizen.
